Oil tanker hijacked after leaving port: Malaysian authorities

An oil tanker was believed to had been hijacked after leaving a Malaysian port, authorities said Wednesday.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency said it had received report on the missing of tanker MT Vier Harmoni since Tuesday afternoon and has launched search operations early Wednesday.

The tanker was reported to have left a Malaysian port in the southern Johor state before missing and is believed to be taken to Batam Islands of Indonesia, said the agency.

The agency added that its resources have been verified to be in the waters of Batam Islands.

The tanker was carrying 900,000 liters of diesel worth 1.57 million ringgit (390,000 U.S. dollars). Enditem
