Xinhua, August 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

The number of foreigners visiting Albania through the ports of Vlora and Saranda has registered a year-on-year increase of 18 percent from June 1 to August 10, a peak tourist reason for the country, local media reported on Saturday.

The number of foreign visitors arriving at the two port cities by sea went up to 52,917 from June 1 to August 10 this year, up from 44,722 a year ago, the Minister of Economic Development, Trade, Enterprise and Tourism Milva Ekonomi was quoted as saying.

According to her, such figures show that Albania is turning into a tourist destination for foreign visitors who choose Albania not only as the country where they want to spend their vacations but also as a country that has to be visited at least once.

The ministry announced on Saturday it has collaborated with the National Tourism Agency to launched a campaign to raise awareness on the protection of clean beaches in Albania.

Several beaches along the Albanian coastline were polluted, the ministry said in a press release, citing inspection results released by government authorities.

Vacationers in the southern part of the country have already been told to be careful in order not to pollute the place where they stay, according to the ministry. Enditem
