Road accident kills 5 in central Nigeria

An accident has claimed five lives on a major highway linking Nigeria's capital city Abuja to Lokoja, capital of the central state of Kogi, authorities said Friday.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Kogi State also confirmed that a total of seven people were involved in the accident, adding that two of them escaped without any injury.

Ogochukwu Ugboma, the state Sector Commander of FRSC, said the victims, three men and two women died on the spot of the accident, which occurred on Thursday.

He attributed the cause of the accident to wrongful overtaking, adding that investigation to ascertain the remote and immediate cause of the accident is underway.
