Over 10 billion yuan raised for greener Beijing

Xinhua, August 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Beijing municipal government has raised over 10 billion yuan from social enterprises to landscape the capital, the municipal bureau of landscape and forestry said Friday.

The funds are being used by projects of public-private partnerships and other foundations to build wetland parks, plant fruit trees and start seedling nurseries, said an official with the bureau.

From 2011 to 2015, nearly 90 billion yuan (about 13.5 billion U.S.dollars) in fixed investments were made in Beijing's landscaping industry, with the government playing the major role.

The bureau plans to increasingly utilize market forces to collect funds in the future, by giving favorable policies to enterprises who invest and establish "green foundations." Endi
