Thailand keen to prevent possible accidents due to Pokemon Go craze

Thai authorities have expressed concern about mobile game Pokemon Go and are working on regulations to prevent possible accidents, according to Bangkok Post Wednesday.

Since launched in Thailand on Saturday, Nintendo Co Ltd's augmented reality game has attracted a lot of Thais, especially young people.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and Information and Communication Technology Ministry (ICT) have been instructed to work out regulations to prevent possible accidents, "probably by fixing playing zones."

Parents were also asked to closely advise their children to avoid addition to the game.

In Bangkok's famous shopping center Paragon last night, a lot of people were seen standing in front of luxury stores playing the game, as many places were installed with "Lure Modules."

Similar scenes can also be seen outside the capital. In Nakhon Ratchasima province, a usually quiet public square was crowded with about 700 Pokemon Go players at 10 p.m. last night, according to Thai media Komchadluek.

But reports said a gang in western Bangkok used the "Lure Module" to lure players on Monday. These players called the police in time.

The game has also been blamed for making players distracted while walking which may be dangerous for both players and others nearby.

Thai police said earlier that playing the game while driving is strictly prohibited. Enditem
