Slovakian mafia boss receives life sentence

Xinhua, August 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Specialized Criminal Court in Pezinok (Bratislava region) on Tuesday handed a life sentence to Robert Okolicany, a mafia boss in Slovakia.

Another 13 people in the dock received sentences of between 3.5 and 25 years. Individual defendants were convicted of several crimes, including setting up, organizing and supporting a criminal and terrorist group.

Judges said many of the aforementioned crimes were carried out in an especially brutal manner.

The original indictment was presented in April 2007, and the proceedings have featured around 130 court sessions so far.

Okolicany and his gang were active in eastern Slovakia, and have been convicted of blackmail, larceny and several murders, including the 2005 killing of underworld leader Jozef Estok. Endit
