Singapore's Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen on Monday said the country's Home Team and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will do everything within their capabilities to step up defences as the city state is welcoming its 51th National Day celebration.

Minister Ng's remarks came after the news that Indonesian authority foiled a plot to launch a rocket from Batam in Riau Islands Province to attack Singapore's Marina Bay was reported on Aug. 5.

Paying a visit to the National Stadium to view preparations, Minister Ng said defences will be stepped up not only on land, but at sea and in the air. On land, the area around the National Stadium, where the National Day Parade will be held on Tuesday, will be gazetted a Special Events Area.

Ng also revealed that SAF will be activating at sea and in the air on the "routine step-up measures." Singapore's Navy and Patrol Coast Guards will also increase the number of patrols at sea, while Maritime and Port Authority will establish no entry and no anchoring zones. Endit
