Singapore stocks close 1.51 pct higher

Singapore stocks finished higher on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 42.61 points, or 1.51 percent, to close at 2,870.78.

A total of 937.6 million shares changed hands with turnover of 1.04 billion Singapore dollars (769.3 million U.S. dollars).

Gainers outnumbered decliners 226 to 186, while 494 others finished unchanged.

The STI index lost 3.79 points, or 0.13 percent, to close at 2,828.17 on Aug. 5. Enditem
