Tokyo shares soar over 2 pct on strong U.S. jobs data, weaker yen

Tokyo shares soared 2 percent Monday with market confidence boosted by better-than-expected U.S. jobs data for July and the yen's depreciation.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 396.12 points, or 2.44 percent, from Friday at 16,650.57.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 25.63 points, or 2.00 percent, higher at 1,305.53.

Gainers were led by insurance, banking and real estate issues.

The day's turnover was 2,259.3 billion yen (22.12 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
