China's Sun Yang qualifies fastest in 200m freestyle heats

Dual Olympic gold medallist Sun Yang of China qualified fastest for the semifinals of the men's 200m freestyle at the Rio Olympic Games on Sunday.

Sun finished his heat in 1 minute 45.75 seconds, three hundredths of a second ahead of Germany's Paul Biedermann and 0.14 sec ahead of third-placed Chad le Clos of South Africa.

The semifinals were due to be held at the Olympic Aquatics stadium on Sunday night with the final scheduled for Monday.

Sun took silver in the men's 400m freestyle final on Saturday, finishing just 0.13 sec behind Australian Mack Horton.

The 24-year-old won gold in the 400m freestyle and 1500m freestyle events at the London 2012 Olympics. Endit
