The following are highlights of South Africa's major media outlets on Saturday.

-- With 87 percent of the vote captured in Johannesburg by Saturday morning, the difference between the support for the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African National Congress (ANC) is mere decimal points.

The DA currently has 41.8 percent, while the ANC is fractionally behind with 41.68 percent. Like in its neighbouring metro, Tshwane (Pretoria), where vote counting is currently 96 percent complete, it still looks like both the ANC and DA will not reach 50 percent. (News24)

-- The ANC is looking on the bright side, saying that overall so far they have achieved a record 15 million votes.

The party also said that its drop of majority support in the metros in the local government elections was a reflection of a maturing democracy. (City Press)

-- The African National Congress (ANC) has managed to get the highest number of votes all local municipalities in Gauteng except for the DA-run Midvaal south of Johannesburg.

However, the focus remains on the fiercely contested Tshwane and Johannesburg metro municipalities where the ANC and the DA are still neck and neck. (South African Broadcasting Corporation) Endit
