Greek athlete fails doping test hours before Rio Olympics opening ceremony: Hellenic Olympic Committee

The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) announced on Friday a few hours before the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics that a Greek athlete tested positive in a doping control.

The athlete's identity was not revealed in the official e-mailed announcement.

According to HOC, the control was conducted in Athens in early July following its request that all Greek athletes who won the ticket to participate in the Rio Games be tested.

The athlete has left the Olympic Village, according to the announcement.

According to Greek media, such as news portal in.gr, the athlete is a female swimmer.

According to the same reports a Greek parathlete has also been found positive in doping control and a similar announcement from the Hellenic Paralympic Committee will be issued in coming hours. Endit
