Senior CPC official cheers leading Chinese experts, scientists

Xinhua, August 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official on Friday called for academic pursuits to meet national demands and help build the country into a great science and technology power.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when he met with 56 scientists and experts enjoying a state-sponsored summer vacation at Beidaihe, a popular seaside resort near the Chinese national capital.

The academics were told to set their research directions and subjects in close relation to the Party and government's development demands and be honest, hardworking and brave in their academic achievements.

Liu also urged Party and government officials to offer support and award outstanding academics, while encouraging society to respect science, innovation and talent.

Since 2001, more than 900 experts in various fields have been invited by the central authorities to summer in Beidaihe. Endi
