The following are news highlights in South Africa's major media outlets on Friday.

-- Results trickling in overnight highlighted a titanic battle in the key metros of Pretoria and Johannesburg between the African National Congress (ANC) and Democratic Alliance (DA) for control of the country's capital city and economic powerhouse.

The numbers continued to depict a loss of support for the ANC in some areas, particularly, the metro cities.(Business Day)

-- The ANC has withdrawn its complaint over results in Nelson Mandela Bay, with parliamentary chief whip Jackson Mthembu saying the party must accept defeat in the local government elections. The DA won the strategic metro in the local government elections.(Nes24)
