Xinhua, August 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Two militant suspects in Bangladesh's deadly Eid prayer attack were killed in a gunfight with anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Mymensingh district, some 122 km north of Dhaka, on Thursday night, a local police official said.

The official who did not like to be named said they were killed as the RAB members opened fire on cohorts of the militants in retaliation of the firing during a raid at a place of the district at around 11:30 p.m. local time Thursday night.

Acting on a tip-off, RAB members conducted the raid, he said.

Sensing the presence of the elite force, cohorts of the criminals opened fire to them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.

At one stage, according to the official, the militant suspects were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while their associates managed to flee the scene.

Later, he said the Rab members recovered the bodies from the spot. Three Rab members were also injured in the gunfight, he added.

He said they were suspected of being involved in the attack near the country's largest Eid congregation venue on July 7. Endit
