Bulgaria to host first int'l congress on world civilizations, creative tourism

Xinhua, August 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Bulgarian government on Wednesday approved an agreement under which the first International Congress on World Civilizations and Creative Tourism will be held here from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, 2016.

The purpose of the event, jointly organized by the Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), is to draw attention to the link between creative tourism and world civilizations as a trend in the international market, the government said in a statement.

The event will also explore how science and technology contribute to the overall experience of tourists visiting a particular destination, the statement said.

The 157 ministers responsible for tourism in the member states of the UNWTO were invited to participate in the congress.

"Holding an event of this scale will contribute to the promotion of Bulgaria as an attractive tourist destination with tremendous opportunities for the development of cultural and historical tourism," the government said.

Bulgaria has been a member of the UNWTO since 1976, and currently the country is a member of the organization's executive council. Enditem
