U.S. stocks open slightly lower

U.S. stocks opened mildly lower on Tuesday, as investors assessed newly-released economic data.

U.S. personal consumption expenditures increased 53.0 billion U.S. dollars, or 0.4 percent, in June, the Commerce Department announced Tuesday.

In June, personal income increased 29.3 billion dollars, or 0.2 percent, and disposable personal income increased 24.6 billion dollars, or 0.2 percent.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ticked down 11.16 points, or 0.06 percent, to 18,393.35. The S&P 500 fell 1.93 points, or 0.09 percent, to 2,168.91. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 7.59 points, or 0.15 percent, to 5,176.61.

U.S. stocks closed mixed on Monday as traders shifted their focus from corporate earnings to the timing of the Federal Reserve's next interest rate hike.

Meanwhile, investors will also keep a close eye on Friday's nonfarm jobs report this week for more clues on the U.S. Federal Reserve's next move. Endi
