The Indonesian government promised large sums of bonus and allowance for medalists at the Rio Olympic Games.

A total of five billion rupiah (some 380,401 U.S. dollars) bonus, a huge number for local standard, and a 27 million rupiah (about 2,054 U.S. dollars) allowance per month will be awarded to the athlete who can get gold medals, according to Indonesian Sport Minister Imam Nahrawi.

A total of two billion rupiah (equal to 152,160 U.S. dollars) bonus and a 15 million rupiah (some 1,141 U.S. dollars) allowance per month will be given to those who will get silver medals, Nahrawi said.

For bronze medalists, they will get one billion rupiah (some 176,080 U.S. dollars) in bonus and a 10 million rupiah (about 761 U.S. dollars) allowance every month, he added.

Twenty eight Indonesian athletes are to compete in seven sports in the Olympic in Rio de Jeneiro slated for Aug. 5 to 21.

They hope that they can reap medals in badminton and weightlifting. Endit
