Slovak police officers left for Hungary to protect border

Xinhua, August 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

A group of 25 Slovak police officers left for Hungary on Monday to help protect the country's border with Serbia, Slovak Interior Minister Robert Kalinak announced on Monday.

The police officers will remain in Hungary for at least one month. After that, a decision on whether to prolong their stay will be made based on the requirements of the Hungarian authorities.

"We believe that even now they'll significantly contribute towards detecting and detaining illegal migrants as well as towards protecting the external border," said Kalinak.

Slovakia last year deployed nearly 300 police officers on foreign missions to Hungary, Slovenia, Macedonia and border operations of European Union agency Frontex. Enditem
