Russian President Putin arrives in Slovenia for unofficial visit

Xinhua, July 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Russian President Vladimir Putin flew to Brnik airport here Saturday for an unofficial visit.

Putin will attend a ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the Russian Chapel below the Vrsic mountain pass at Kranjska Gora, according to Slovenian RTV live report.

Putin's arrival in Slovenia at the invitation of Slovenian President Borut Pahor was delayed more than an hour due to "unpredicted domestic obligations," the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) reported.

He will be welcomed at the chapel by Pahor. The pair will then address the commemoration for some 300 WWI Russian prisoner-of-wars who died there in an avalanche in 1916.

Pahor maintains that Putin's visit pays respect to the friendship between the two countries and will build trust. Endit
