Belgium arrests two suspects over plotting terror attacks

Xinhua, July 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Two men suspected of planning a terrorist attack in Belgium were arrested in a police operation Friday night in Belgium, according to local media reports.

Based on provisional results from the investigation, it appears that there were plans to carry out an attack somewhere in Belgium, Belgian newspaper Le Soir quoted the federal prosecution office as saying.

The two suspects -- Nourredine H, 33, and his brother Hamza H -- were arrested Friday during a major anti-terrorist operation in Belgium's Mons region and the city of Liege.

No weapon or any explosive were found during the operation.

The judge will decide on Saturday whether to issue their possible detention.

Belgium is still on level 3, the second highest, security alert since the city was rocked by bombings on March 22 that killed 32 people. Endit
