Singapore stocks close 1.71 pct lower

Singapore stocks finished lower on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 49.93 points, or 1.71 percent, to close at 2,868.69.

A total of 1.20 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1.48 billion Singapore dollars (1.09 billion U.S. dollars).

Decliners outnumbered gainers 311 to 131, while 463 others finished unchanged.

The STI index lost 22.87 points, or 0.78 percent, to close at 2,918.62 on Thursday. Endit
