Tokyo shares close higher on further monetary easing by BOJ

Tokyo shares closed higher Friday as the Bank of Japan announced at the end of its two-day policy meeting to further ease monetary policy to defeat deflation.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 92.43 points, or 0.56 percent, from Thursday at 16,569.27.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 15.74 points, or 1.20 percent, higher at 1,322.74.

Gainers were led by banking, securities house and insurance issues.

The day's turnover was about 3,296.7 billion yen (around 31.77 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
