Tokyo shares close lower by break ahead of BOJ meeting outcome

Tokyo shares ended the morning session lower Friday on yen's appreciation and cautious sentiment ahead of the outcome of the Bank of Japan's two-day policy meeting ending later in the day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average slid 65.45 points, or 0.40 percent, from Thursday to 16,411.39.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 5.02 points, or 0.38 percent, to 1,301.98.

Decliners were led by iron and steel, electric power and gas, as well as wholesale issues. Endit
