Ex-minister among 7 killed in road accident in eastern Nepal

At least seven persons have lost their lives in a road accident in eastern district Dhankuta on Thursday, local media reported.

The accident occurred when an ill-fated passenger bus fell some 200 meters down the road near the local Sidhuwa bazaar. According to authorities, the passenger bus was traveling to Dharan, a popular eastern city, from nearby district Sankhuwasabha.

Former Minister of State for Finance Hari Raj Khewa is among the deceased, local media quoted Regional Police Office. He served as the state minister under the government of Baburam Bhattarai.

However, the identity of others has not been revealed yet. More than two dozen have sustained injuries in the accident, who are undergoing treatment in different local hospitals.

Security personnel have been deployed in the accident site for further investigation.
