Fiji's Electoral Commission is already on election preparation mode as the Pacific island country prepares to head to the 2018 general election, local television channel Fiji TV reported Thursday.

The Electoral Commission is working in close collaboration with the supervisor of elections to ensure the stage is set when Fijians make their vote count, said Chen Bunn Young, chairman of the commission.

"By this time next year, we should be able to issue certificate details of the venue of the election as we proceed to the next year, we possibly release details of the schedules," the official said.

The Fijian Election Office has been urged to use modern technology to improve their services to political parties and voters.

Fiji's latest general election was held in September 2014, the first ever since the country's 2006 coup. Endit
