A total of 18 militants have been killed and 17 others injured as security forces pounded Taliban positions in Dasht-e-Archi district of the northern province Wednesday night, an army spokesman in the northern region Nasratullah Jamshidi said Thursday.

According to the official, the security forces backed by aircrafts attacked Taliban hideouts in parts of the restive Dasht-e-Archi district late Wednesday night killing 18 rebels on the spot and injuring 17 others.

Without commenting on the possible casualties of security personnel, Jamshidi also reported arresting 20 more militants in Saripul province on Wednesday.
