Colombia's Atletico Nacional win Copa Libertadores

Xinhua, July 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Colombia's Atletico Nacional secured their second Copa Libertadores title on Wednesday by defeating Ecuador's Independiente del Valle with a 2-1 aggregate victory in the final.

After a 1-1 draw in last week's first leg in Quito, it took only nine minutes for Miguel Borja to hand the hosts the lead at their Atanasio Girardot stadium.

It was Borja's fifth goal in four matches as he showed the form that has earned him a call-up to Colombia's squad for next month's Rio Olympics.

Atletico Nacional defended resolutely for the rest of the match to send their fans into a frenzy at the final whistle.

"This is a dream come true," Borja told reporters after the match. "Many people thought that I was a small-club player but now I've won the Copa Libertadores."

The Medellin outfit's only previous Copa Libertadores triumph came in 1989. Independiente were playing in their first final of South American football's top club competition. Endit
