Shopping mall evacuated in northern Germany, looking for psychiatric patient

Xinhua, July 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Police evacuated a shopping mall in northern Germany on Wednesday, looking for an escaped patient from a psychiatric hospital.

Witnesses reported a suspicious man in a shopping mall in the northern German city of Bremen to police at around 16:30 (1430 GMT), Bremen police said in a statement.

The police failed to found the person in a subsequent action and asked all people to leave the mall in order to "minimize potential risks".

According to the police, the suspect was a 19-year-old Algerian run away from a psychiatric hospital.

Special forces entered the mall shortly after 21:00 (1900 GMT). It could not be ruled out that the suspect was still inside the building and left a dangerous object, reported local media, citing police sources.

A police spokesman said the man had expressed sympathy with attacks in Munich and the terror in the psychiatric ward. Endit
