Xinhua, July 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Sony announced Wednesday that it will release the PlayStation VR (PS VR) device across the Chinese mainland on Oct. 13.

Customers can order the PS VR headset from Thursday, Sony Interactive Entertainment (Shanghai) and Shanghai Oriental Pearl Solatube Culture Development Co. said.

The PS VR will cost 2,999 yuan (450 U.S. dollars).

Sony has 23 VR games, including seven by Chinese developers. They will be available once they gain approval from Chinese regulators.

The new headset marks Sony's entry into the VR market, joining competitors including HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Topology Research Institute estimates that Sony will sell 6 million PS VR headsets this year, outperforming its rivals and securing a 67-percent market share. Endit
