Geneva airport enhances security after receiving sensitive information

Xinhua, July 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Swiss law enforcement has been conducting increased security checks in Geneva's international airport after receiving sensitive information from French authorities, local police and airport sources confirmed Wednesday.

The city's police force indicated on social media that preventive checks were being carried out, and that passengers should factor in longer waiting times before traveling.

The airport's spokesperson told Xinhua the airport remained operational and that the alert was received last night, but has yet to be verified by authorities.

Security at the border located next to the airport between Switzerland and France was also increased.

The latest development came in the wake of a spree of attacks in neighboring France and Germany. Endite
