About 13 militants had been killed amid military operations launched by Afghan security forces in the country's northern province of Kunduz, provincial police department said on Wednesday.
"Joint Afghan security forces conducted an operation in Qarluq locality of Archi district Tuesday night, killing three Taliban militants and injuring two others," it said in a statement.
On Tuesday, the joint forces supported by the Afghan army's warplanes struck a Taliban militants' hideout in Qalay-i-Zal district and killed 10 armed militants, according to the statement.
The Taliban militants, which ruled the country before they were ousted in late 2001, renewed armed insurgency, staging ambushes and suicide attacks, killing combatants as well as civilians.
"One military armored vehicle seized by the Taliban earlier last year was also destroyed by Afghan air force in Qalay-i-Zal operation," the statement noted.
The Taliban launched sporadic attacks and tried to capture the control of Qalay-i-Zal, bordering Tajikistan, earlier this month, but Afghan troops repelled their attacks.
Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants.
The Taliban has yet to make comments. Endit
