Tokyo shares close higher by break on strong U.S. shares, yen's depreciation

Tokyo shares closed the morning session higher Monday on strong U.S. stock market performance last week and yen's depreciation.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 63.35 points, or 0.38 percent, from Friday to 16,690.60.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange inched up 4.60 points, or 0.35 percent, to 1,332.11.

Gainers were led by pulp and paper, metal products as well as electric power and gas issues. Endit
