1st LD: Munich police arrest friend of dead shooter

Munich police announced on Sunday evening that they have arrested a friend of the already dead shooter who killed nine people in Munich.

The 16-year-old Afghan, arrested at his home in Munich at about 18:15 local time, is being investigated because he is suspected to act as a possible accomplice, local police said.

Investigators also need to figure out to which extent the arrested person is responsible for a Facebook call for a meeting in a cinema complex near the Munich central train station.

On early Sunday evening, more than thousands of residents spontaneously took part in different memorial services.

The shooter, an 18-year-old German-Iranian teenager, started planning the attack one year ago. He received medical treatment for a long time and stayed in a closed psychiatric ward from July to September 2015, the prosecutors said earlier during the day. Endit
