Nigerian state orders workers to resume work in restive areas

Xinhua, July 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

All civil servants in the 10 local government areas of restive northeast Borno State liberated from Boko Haram have been ordered to return to work with immediate effect, the government said Sunday.

The local government areas are free from Boko Haram and they are habitable, Usman Zannah, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, told reporters in Maiduguri, the state capital.

These local government areas were also rebuilt by the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Resettlement with the support of NGOs, he added.

"It is in line with this development that Governor Shettima directed that salaries of workers must be paid in all liberated local government areas," he said.

"We don't see any reason why workers should remain in Maiduguri when many people have returned to their communities," Zannah added.

Borno has been one of the most raided states in Nigeria by Boko Haram in the past six years. Endit
