Remains of Mexican climbers to be returned

Xinhua, July 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Mexican Embassy in Peru is working on the return of the remains of two Mexican climbers who died in an avalanche in Peru, said the Foreign Ministry on Saturday.

Peruvian authorities have confirmed the two dead Mexican mountaineers as Carlos Belkotosky and Jose Miguel Mendoza, said the ministry. Their bodies were found after an intensive search of the Huascaran, one of the tallest mountains in the world.

Staff members of the Mexican Embassy are currently in the Peruvian city of Huarez to prepare for the return of the remains and provide support to Ruben Jaen, the only Mexican climber who survived the disaster.

The three Mexican climbers, all from the northern state of Chihuahua, were part of an expedition team to surmount the snow-peaked Huascaran along with Spaniards and Peruvians. Another two members of the team also died in Tuesday's tragic accident. Endi
