A floating restaurant on the sea in the Vietnamese province of Ninh Thuan capsized on Saturday morning, killing at least two tourists and injuring three others, local media reported.
The restaurant of Vinh Tien Tourism Company at Vinh Hy Bay in Vinh Hai commune, Ninh Hai district was serving some 300 to 400 customers when its pier collapsed, making it capsize and people fall into the sea, online newspaper VnExpress reported.
Local fishermen, policemen and border guards quickly rescued the victims. However, two tourists drowned and three others were injured, said Tran Van Nam, chairman of the Vinh Hai People's Committee.
The restaurant, built on large floating plastic barrels, is some 50 meters from the shore, and 2.5 meters above the sea-bed, he said on Saturday afternoon, adding that rescuers are still searching for the tourists' assets and potential bodies.
Rich in seafood and calm all year round, Vinh Hy Bay attracts a lot of Vietnamese and foreign tourists. Enditem
