Schuerrle joins Dortmund from Wolfsburg

Xinhua, July 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Borussia Dortmund have signed striker Andre Schuerrle from league rivals Wolfsburg, both Bundesliga clubs confirmed on Friday.

One day after the comeback of Mario Goetze, who returned from Bayern Munich, the "BVB" continue to bolster up their squad for the upcoming season as Andre Schuerrle penned a five-year deal until June 2021.

"Andre Schuerrle is a Germany international with outstanding offensive potential," Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc said. "Despite his 25 years he has already gained an extensive international experience. His qualities will be valuable for our team."

Schuerrle started his professional career at Mainz in 2006 before he joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2011. After a two-year spell with the "Werkself", the striker moved to Premier League outfit Chelsea, where he played until 2015. However, after spending most of the time on the bench in London, Schuerrle decided to commit his future to Wolfsburg. Dortmund's new arrival scored overall 48 goals in 174 Bundesliga appearences.

"Dortmund is one of the top clubs in Europe and has a strong squad," Schuerrle told the club's official homepage. "In the coming years I want to be successful with Dortmund and convince those responsible that it was the right decision to sign me."

Schuerrle, who marked 20 goals in 55 outings for FIFA World champions Germany, will face Mainz with his new club on Aug. 27. Endit
