Over 2.56 bln USD of ODA, concessional loans committed for Vietnam in H1

Over 2.56 billion U.S. dollars of official development assistance (ODA) and concessional loans was committed for Vietnam in the first half of 2016, posting a surge of 61 percent year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) on Thursday.

Meanwhile, disbursement of ODA and concessional loans during the January-June period declined by 4 percent year-on-year to about 1.85 billion U.S. dollars, including 1.75 billion U.S. dollars of ODA loans and 100 million U.S. dollars of non-refundable ODA, Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA quoted the MPI as saying.

During 2011-2015 period, nearly 22 billion U.S. dollars of ODA, concessional loans had been signed but failed to be disbursed for Vietnam, said a proposal approved by Vietnamese government on orientation of attracting, managing and using ODA, concessional loans during 2016-2020 period.

During 2016-2020 period, Vietnam is in need of 39.5 billion U.S. dollars of ODA and concessional loans with focus on projects in transport, urban development, agriculture, environment, education-training, healthcare and science-technology. Enditem
