Myanmar warns of destroying over 3-month frozen chickens

Xinhua, July 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Myanmar authorities have warned of destroying imported chickens frozen for over three months, official report said Thursday.

The breeders cannot be compensated due to the overdue frozen chickens disposal, the Livestock and Treatment Department was quoted as saying.

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein has encouraged the chicken breeders to reduce the prevailing market prices down by 50 percent.

Imported poultry will be tested at the laboratory to ensure that they are free of pesticide and chemicals injected, the department said, adding that breeding farms, slaughter houses and packaging will be checked whether they are in accordance with health requirement.

The department is also drawing the procedures to ensure harmless for the customers, an officer added.

H9N2 bird flu occurred in 47 poultry farms in Monywa, northwestern Sagaing region, in early April and over 23,220 chickens were then culled in its preventive measures against further spread of the disease. Endit
