Morocco busts terror cell planning attack at sensitive targets

Xinhua, July 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Moroccan Interior Ministry on Wednesday said in a statement it has busted a terror cell which was planning to attack several sensitive targets in Morocco.

On July 15, Morocco's security services arrested six people in the south of the Kingdom with suspected links to the Islamic State (IS).

Ongoing investigations have showed that the terror cell planned to target public and touristic places, as well as hotels and police stations, the statement said.

According to the investigations, the materials seized from the cell members were ingredients to make explosives.

The arrested people had planned to secretly join IS branch in Libya, the statement added.

Morocco is facing a growing threat from the IS. In May, the director of Morocco's Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation, Abdelhak El Khayam, said that Morocco has busted 29 terrorist cells that planned attacks against the country. Endit
