The Development Bank of Latin America announced Tuesday that it would lend 100 million U.S. dollars to Ecuador to help with reconstruction efforts after the April 16 earthquake.

The loan will initially help around 8,000 families affected by the earthquake in the coastal provinces of Esmeraldas, Manabi, Santa Elena, Los Rios and Guayas, said the bank.

The earthquake left 670 people dead and around 80,000 more displaced, destroyed nearly 29,000 homes and public buildings, including 875 schools and 51 medical centers. Endi
