17 killed in eastern Afghan flooding

Xinhua, July 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Up to 17 people were killed after floods triggered by heavy rains hit a remote area in Afghanistan's eastern province of Khost on Monday, an official said on Tuesday.

"Rainstorms and flash flood killed 17 people, including six women and eight children in Sabari and neighboring Ali Shir districts late Monday," Shadam Helal, provincial director of Natural Disaster Management Authority, told Xinhua.

The flood also damaged several houses and washed away farmlands in the mountainous province bordering Pakistan, the official added.

The bodies of most victims were found and the provincial government had started the relief activities in the affected areas, the disaster official noted. Endit
