Ghana selects 16 athletes for Rio Olympics

The Ghana Olympic Committee on Monday announced the list of 16 athletes for the Olympic Games in Rio.

The athletics produced 11 qualifiers comprising six individual qualifiers: Flings Owusu-Agyapong (100m), Janet Amponsah (200m), John Ampomah (Javelin), Emmanuel Dasor (200m), Alex Amankwah (800m), and Sean Safo-Antwi (100m) and the 15th-placed women's 4x100m relay team to be selected from Gemma Acheampong, Beatrice Gyaman, Dorcas Gyimah, Persis William-Mensah, and Akua Obeng-Akrofi.

They will be joined for the multi-sport events by two swimmers (Kaya Forson and Abeiku Jackson), one weightlifter (Christian Amoah), one judoka (Szandra Szogedi), and one boxer Abdul Wahid Omar, who was one of Ghana's two bronze medalists at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

More than 10,000 athletes will compete in the first edition of the Olympic Games in South America. Endit
