Slovenia, Georgia to enhance economic, political cooperation

Xinhua, July 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Slovenia and Georgia have agreed to enhance bilateral economic cooperation and Slovenia has said it will support Georgia's efforts to joint the EU and NATO.

The agreements were reached after visiting Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili met with Slovenian host President Borut Pahor at the start of a two-day official visit on Monday, the first top-level visit from Georgia, according to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA).

Pahor, together with Margvelashvili, praised the good relations between the two countries, saying they were deepening.

As for the EU accession process, Pahor acknowledged that the EU enlargement process could see some problems.

He argued that Europe should "muster the courage to state its intentions regarding enlargement." However, he did not find it very likely that every country that wanted to become a member would be able to.

As for NATO, Pahor said Slovenia supported the conclusions of the recent summit in Warsaw, which envisage closer dialogue and cooperation with Georgia and Ukraine to strengthen security in the Black Sea region.

Margvelashvili is also to meet with Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar and Speaker of the National Assembly Milan Brglez. Endit
