Vietnam disqualifies one more parliament member

Vietnam's National Election Council (NEC) convened an extraordinary meeting here on Sunday afternoon to disqualify one more parliament member, reported local Tien Phong (Youth) newspaper on Monday.

During the meeting chaired by the National Assembly (NA) chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, NEC members cast secret votes on considering the status of the 14th NA deputy Nguyen Thi Nguyet Huong.

The vote casting result showed that all NEC members agreed that Huong, who was newly-elected to the 14th NA in May elections, will be dismissed from the post due to her ineligibility, according to Tien Phong.

Initial information showed that Huong has held the second citizenship of Malta, which violates Law on Vietnamese Nationality, Tien Phong reported.

At the general election, Huong got approval of 78.51 percent of valid votes at an election unit of Vietnam's capital Hanoi to become NA deputy.

Earlier last Friday, Trinh Xuan Thanh, former vice chairman of Vietnam's southern Hau Giang province, was also dismissed from the post of the 14th NA deputy.

With two already disqualified, the 14th NA of Vietnam has 494 deputies. Endit
