Bulgaria strongly condemns terrorist attack in Nice

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, the Chair of the National Assembly, Tsetska Tsacheva, and the foreign ministry on Friday strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Nice, France on Thursday night which killed at least 84 people.

"The Republic of Bulgaria is shocked, and firmly and strongly condemns this attack against the foundations of our civilization," Plevneliev said in a message of condolence to his French counterpart Francois Hollande.

"Such acts of brutal violence and hatred are completely unacceptable and cannot be justified in any way," Plevneliev said.

This shocking act showed that "we must remain united and resolute in the fight against the threats of terror. Our common duty is to unite our efforts, and to work to build a more secure and peaceful world," the Bulgarian head of state said.

In turn, Tsacheva said in letters to the head of both the French Senate and the National Assembly the terrorist act in Nice had been yet another horrifying and endlessly painful encounter with suffering and sorrow.

Joint immediate political actions to combat terrorism are needed, Tsacheva said.

Meanwhile, the Bulgarian foreign ministry said "barbaric terrorism will not succeed to win the free citizens of Europe," the statement said. Endit
