Oil union suspends strike in Nigeria

Xinhua, July 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Nigeria's oil union on Wednesday suspended its one-week strike.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) had embarked on an indefinite strike on July 7.

The president of the association, Johnson Olabode, announced the suspension at the end of its National Executive Council meeting.

He said the union has been satisfied with the outcome of the meeting with the government thereby suspending the current nationwide industrial action effective immediately.

Olabode commended his colleagues for their struggle to move the association forward.

The meeting was deferred to July 19 and 21 for the negotiations to be concluded.

The union had threatened to embark on a nationwide strike beginning from July 7 over some issues, including the alleged mass lay off of its members by various oil and gas companies. Endit
