Xinhua, July 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Eight Taliban insurgents have been killed and a few others injured as clashes erupted in Darayem district of the northern Afghan province of Badakhshan on Thursday, an army spokesman Nasratullah Jamshidi said.

The clashes flared up after the militants targeted security checkpoints in some villages, according to the official, adding security forces retaliated, forcing militants to flee after leaving behind eight bodies on the battle ground.

However, the official avoided commenting on the possible casualties of security forces.

Taliban militants have yet to make comment on the situation in the said district. Endit
