Loew to stay as Germany coach until 2018

Xinhua, July 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Joachim Loew will be coaching Germany until 2018, the German Football Federation (DFB) confirmed in an official statement on Tuesday.

The statement ended the speculations of the coach's departure after Germany lost to France in the European Championship semifinal last week.

"We are of course disappointed at the semifinal exit," Loew said in the DFB statement. "But it was the youngest team in the tournament and I still see great potential. I am sure they will give us great pleasure. I will work with these players to develop them with an eye towards the 2018 World Cup in Russia."

"We never had a doubt that he wants to continue here to defend the title, as our common goal, at the 2018 World Cup," DFB president Reinhard Grindel said. "I stick to what I have said before: Joachim Loew is the best coach for this team. He has our full confidence." Endit
